Lead in Pet Toys-Warning to Pet Owners June 13, 2008

June 7, 2008 -Sharon Kiley Mack of the Bangor Daily News reported that Maine's state veterinarian Don Hoenig issued a warning to all pet owners about the dangers of high concentrations of lead in pet toys made in China.
Dr. Hoenig is concerned that many households with pets also have children who sometimes put a pet's toy in their mouth. The AVMA referred him to the U.S. FDA and the Consumer Product Safety Commission and neither groups monitors or regulates pet toys.
The public needs to be aware of pet toys that have tested with high levels of lead because children can have contact with these toys too.
