Ulcerative Keratitis
07/28/2008
"One of the most devastating corneal diseases in our patients is keratomalasia or melting ulcers. Tetracycline is the best treatment for the prevention and treatment of melting ulcers. The beneficial effect of this drug is the presence of Matrix Metabolic Proteases (MMP) which facilitate epithelial mesenchymal
transformation. I recommend using it regardless of the antibiotic you may select for the primary bacterial disease. My recommendation for ulcerative keratitis is triple antibiotic without identifying the organism or the specific antibiotic for the culture obtained."
